Sky Lanterns

Last night we met some friends to light and let off sky lanterns. I had never done this before. It was a beautiful way to celebrate the winter solstice. Sky lanterns are” airborne paper lanterns traditionally found in some Asian cultures. Constructed from oiled rice paper on a bamboo frame and contain a small candle or fuel cell composed of a waxy flamable material. When lit, the flame heats the air inside the lantern causing it to rise in to the air. Once the flame goes out the lantern sinks back to the ground”.

Above are three of our lanterns in the air.

My SS holding his lantern until it’s ready to lift off. I think this is a semi annual tradition I would like to keep! Happy Christmas Eve!
